Supplements

The main focus for Bearded Dragons kept as pets in captive conditions should be to balance out their Calcium to Phosphorus ratio. Insects always have a higher Phosphorus to Calcium ratio so providing healthy "salads" with dark leafy greens and certain healthy vegetables is best to help keep their bodies Calcium levels normal. As with any captive reptile their diets are still limited in variety so "dusting" their feeder bugs with Calcium and a Multivitamin to fill the gaps is highly recommended. Our collection is given Zoo Med Repti Calcium with D3 as well as the Rep-cal Calcium with D3 brand. We have found both work very well, but really any brand of reptile Calcium with D3 could work!

Multivitamins are a bit more tricky as there are many brands out their sold for reptiles that do not provide a correct balance that is safe for Bearded Dragons. Bearded Dragons are highly susceptible to Vitamin A overdoses. Many brands tend to have too high a ratio of vitamin A, Vit. D & Vit. E. The ratio you should be looking for specifically for Bearded Dragons is 100:10:1. The brands we have safely used for many years are Rep-Cal Herptivite and Repashy SuperVeggie. Only dust your feeder bugs once a week with your multivitamin to avoid overdosing even on "safe" brands.

Additional Supplements

We highly recommend Ferne's Reptile Toppers in addition to your dragons Calcium and Multivitamin regimen. We have had amazing results specifically with the "Dragon Crack" product available on their site. It is added to all of our dragons salads/veggies. Not only does this product contain superfoods that are hard to find at your local grocery/healthfood stores, but it also has probiotic to help with appetite and general overall gut health. It has a very pleasant aroma that we believe smells similar to English tea. Ferne's Toppers also helps attract stubborn dragons to eating their salads which comes in handy for adults that try to holdout for bugs and are not eating enough healthy greens and veggies. Supplies

The brands of UVB/UVA lights we have used with great success over the years are Zoo Med Reptisun 10.0 or higher, Arcadia 10.0 or higher & Exo Terra Repti Glo 10.0 or higher. The best shape and broadest exposure comes from long tube bulbs(T5). Compact bulbs are available and can be used, but in very small cages where the bulbs are able to be within 6''-7'' of the dragon unobstructed. For adult sized cages or larger T5 bulbs are highly recommended.
